good-bye spaces

I've been blogging for over a year now.

Unfortaunately, MSN Spaces has become slow, bloated, cumbersome and frustrating.

Time to try a new place to share...

over the next while I'll be migrating over to

www.freewebs.com/misterpete
(there's a link near the top right of the page)

I've had over 46600 views while here

met a lot of nice people

but I've had enough of the hourglass, runtime server errors, and the various other annoyances that slow all of this down...

adios!

love makes the world go 'round

it really does

when we are in love, we are more joyful

we spread that joy to others

our happiness effects everything we do

we are kinder, more forgiving

our positivity flows to others and it in turn enhances their lives

joy carries us through the day with a smile on our face

it is contagious

it inspires and brightens the world

like a happy disease

I get high on thoughts of her

she energizes me

I am filled with joy

and it carries me through the day
like a ride on a cloud

make it so

The moment that's yours right now is the link between intention and reality. You know what it is that you want to accomplish, and today is when you can actually make it so.

You might well wish that you had done it sooner. But all the wishing in the world will not change what is in the past.

You might think you can put it off until later. But the only time that's currently available to you is the moment that you're in.

Now is when you can actually make a difference. Now is when you can act to make it so.

Now is a golden moment, filled to the brim with valuable possibilities and rich opportunities. Yet all the wealth in this moment, in this day, will be lost forever if you fail to act.

Seize this moment that you're in, and fill it with purposeful, powerful action. See life in the best light you can imagine, then take this day and make it so.

the January sun

I live in the middle of Canada. In the summer time here, we usually have hot, sunny weather. The temperature can climb to plus 33 celcius on some days, and one of the best places to be on days like that is Grand Beach.

Those hot, sunny days are months away right now. Here, in the middle of winter, I miss cycling in the sunshine. My bike sits idle, and I look forward to the nicer weather of summer, zipping around feeling alive and free.

The winter this year has been mild. We have been lucky with warmer than usual temperatures.

When I drove to work this morning, I smiled at the colors of the sunrise. It was one of those mornings where it feels good to be alive.

During the first class, I sat near the window at the back of the room. The morning sunshine felt so good.

Not every day here in the winter is sunny. There are plenty of dreary, cloudy days that can take its toll on the spirit.

Today I soak up the sun. I smile, and appreciate the joy it brings me.

Not every day is sunny, so enjoy it while you can. Treasure the warmth and carry it with you on the cloudier days. Take the memory of the beautiful sunshine in your heart and let it comfort you in days of darkness.

Be joyful in the sunshine

Those cloudier days can be easier to get through when we remember that sunnier days are ahead. The dim days of winter won't last forever. Winter will slip into spring soon enough and those days on the beach will return again.

Seek out the things that bring us joy. Relish the happy times and keep them with you. They energize you and give hope. Focus on the good things that bring us strength..

Savor the sunshine. Recognize its beauty and enjoy it. Feel its warmth and be happy.

In our lives we all have cloudy days and sunny days. Enjoy the sun when it shines, and on those cloudy days, remember - the sun will return again.

vertical and horizontal asymptotes

ah the joys of high school pre-calculus math...

(if you are new to my blog- one of the hats I wear is as a teaching assistant at a suburban Winnipeg high school)

It’s exam time.

Many are reviewing...

Some are panicking...

Some are scrambling to try desperately to hand in assignments at the last minute. Work that they have avoided and now, can no longer avoid if they do not want to have to repeat courses.

The pressure is on...

The staff feel it, the students feel it.

Some are feeling so overwhelmed, they have just given up...

The thing about defeat is that in the short term, it is easy.

It excuses you of further obligations for now.

It relieves the burden of having to put in any more effort.

It’s the easy way out.

Some look for excuses to fail.

  • It’s the teachers fault
  • It’s my parents fault
  • I'm not smart enough
  • I'm too tired
  • I don't have my textbook
  • I don't have the time
  • I lost my pen
  • I don't have the energy

If you keep looking for reasons for something to fail, eventually you may likely to be successful in your quest to fail.

Anyone can justify anything to himself or herself if they want bad enough...

This may be a good time to think about what may be motivating you to be doing whatever you are doing.

Ultimately, anything of value takes effort...

It takes motivation, vision, persistence and patience.

If you want it bad enough, you can find a way.

Sometimes we need a little outside help...

Here at school, the teachers are willing to assist before or after class. There is a resource area where students can come to get help. I can be of some help in many situations, but in some cases the students can achieve better results by seeking help with more qualified people. You can't force help down someone's throat, though.

Sometimes you can't make it on your own... That’s ok.

Resources are all around. Alternatives, the opportunities for success are available to who ever chooses to seek them out.

The successful students overcome their obstacles. They contend with distractions. They hang in there even when they may be feeling lost. They seek extra help in their weakest areas

They learn to cope with the pressure. They may feel overwhelmed, but they find a way...

Sometimes it's just bad timing...

Too many challenges conspire to interfere with success.

So- perhaps the thing that is being trying to be accomplished may seem temporarily out of reach. It’s not a must give up- put it aside for now and come back to it. Some students find success a little later in their lives- when the conditions for achievement are more favourable. It doesn't mean giving up on dreams, but perhaps spending a little more time preparing to achieve them later. Sometimes students have to first groom other skills to set the stage for their success...

In a way, it's easy for me to talk about these things. I am strong, healthy, focussed and fairly together...

I have experience and maturity to give me confidence.

Some of these students have a lot on their plates...

Abuse, pressures, changes, their unknown future, insecurities, health issues... Currently, I am without many challenges and pressures. One advantage this gives me is strength; another may be a more balanced perspective- one of vision, patience

and the persistence needed to overcome great obstacles. In the past, I have had challenges. They have helped make me who I am today. I know I will have other challenges ahead. My past has prepared me well for my future...

Knowing what things are worth fighting for allows us to stay focussed on the bigger picture...

None of us have unlimited energy, it’s in our best interest to pick our battles.

Enduring the storms along the way might slow us down. They may be discouraging and draining, but they don't last forever if we plot a course to a sunnier part of the world and stay on course.

never give up on really important things

always keep hope

always hang on to the vision of important successes

keep your eyes on the prize

choose your consequences

The answers you find will come from the questions you ask. The things you accomplish will result from the efforts you mount. The places you go will depend on the journeys you undertake. The rewards you enjoy flow from the risks you are willing to accept.

When you control the causes, the effects will be to your liking. What you get from any experience or situation depends primarily on what you put into it. Those who are wise, have made the effort to learn. Those who are wealthy, have made the effort to earn.

Output depends on input. Input depends on you. What you are giving will determine how you are living. You can get whatever you desire by taking the steps that will cause it to happen. Everything you do has a consequence. Use that reality to your advantage.

Choose your ideal consequences by carefully choosing your actions.

the power of acceptance

Sometimes the best way to free yourself from a burden is to accept it. Much of the destructive essence of any burdensome situation comes from fighting against it. Once you stop fighting, you can start progressing.

Certainly if there is a threat you protect yourself against it. But there is no point in fighting against what already is. When you accept the situation, that is the starting point at which you begin to make the most of it. When you can go beyond acceptance into sincere gratitude, you take on a powerful positive momentum.

In short, accept what is, then find something positive about it. Even the most desperate situation has its positive aspects and possibilities. You'll uncover them only after you've accepted that the situation exists.

Acceptance is not surrender. It is the recognition of reality. By clearly seeing what is, by acknowledging and even being grateful, you can move things forward toward the way you would like them to be.

know it is possible

Knowing that something is possible is a significant step toward achieving it. As soon as you know, without a doubt, that you can achieve it, in many ways you immediately begin to benefit from it.

Of course achievement requires more than just knowing you can do it. You must actually take the steps which will make it happen. However, those efforts come much more readily when you know that they will surely lead where you desire to go.

Look at all the things others have achieved. Consider everything you have already accomplished. Know that what you desire is possible. Convince yourself of it. See yourself living it in every detail. Fully and sincerely expect it, and you're well on the way to having it.

make it yours

Don't wait for someone to give you permission to succeed and achieve. Get yourself busy and do it. Don't wait for someone to tell you how to do it. Take it upon yourself to figure it out. Don't wait for just the right situation. Don't count on being lucky. Do what it takes to make your own good fortune.

Learn from others. Seek the advice, input and feedback of those whose opinions you respect. But don't depend on anyone or anything to do it for you. Make the best of fortunate situations, but don't depend on luck or chance.
Depend on those things over which you have the most direct control -- your own thoughts and actions, your ability to make the choices which will lead to precisely where you have decided to go.

Your destiny is in your hands. Think like it and act like it with each passing moment. Take hold of that destiny and make it the best it can possibly be.

V O T E

I’ve just returned from casting my ballot at the advanced polls. The advanced polls for me works well. I know who I am voting for and can take care of it now on the weekend when I have some more free time.

It’s a mild winters day, and a good chance to get a little exercise. I walked over to cast my vote only to discover that I had looked at the wrong location on my card. Oops. Oh well… I looked at the card again and saw that the advanced poll was at a different school a little further away. No worries – I had time and this was an opportunity to enjoy a decent mid winter walk.

So – for all you Canadians out there who are constantly whining and bitching about the state of our country, here is your chance. Do a little research on who is running in your riding and go cast your ballot.

Think globally – act locally. Your vote is an opportunity to put in your two cents. Get out there and let your voice be heard.

be thankful

Be thankful for this day, and you will fill it with joy. Be appreciative of those around you, and they will bring much value to your life. Be grateful for your opportunities, and you'll find yourself making the most of them.

Be thankful for what you have, and you'll get more from it. Be grateful for the challenges, and they will help you become stronger. Appreciate the dark, cloudy days and they'll instantly become brighter. Appreciate the sunny days, and you'll enjoy them even more.

Those things you take for granted will fade from usefulness as you forget they're even there. By contrast, those things for which you're thankful remain readily available and will grow even stronger as a result of your appreciative attention.

Consider how very fortunate you are. Consider it often. The more you count your blessings, the more there will be to count.

who you are

Who do you think you are? Your perception of yourself becomes reality through the thoughts, decisions and actions of every moment. Are you kind? Are you loving? Are you honest? Are you successful? Are you wealthy? You are when you truly think you are.

Every day a thousand decisions greet you. They overflow with opportunity. They can take you to any place imaginable. How do you choose? How do you decide? You do so based on who you think you are.

What do others think of you? It depends on who you think you are. What will you become? That depends entirely on who you think you will become.

Who do you think you are? It is revealed in every moment, in every action, in every decision, in every thought and opinion. The great thing is that you can be whomever you decide you will be. It is your choice. It is your life. So who do you think you are?

After 2 weeks away, some of these math concepts are difficult to wrap your head around. Especially on only 31/2 hours sleep. What a fun way to jump back into things.

It always takes a couple of days to readjust to the work routine. The staff and students take a little time to get back into work mode.

I think for me, the hardest part of my present job may be putting up with whiny co-workers. 'It's too cold, it's too hot, oh the kids are just nuts today, I'm so tired...' Good gawd - give it a rest. Every day it's something. Some times it takes a lot of patience to not want to tell them to... well, you know...

There are times we just tolerate.

Sometimes, the best we can do is endure. The Christmas holidays are over, spring is a way off and now is a time to try and get back into a routine. Many people have difficulty during this time of year. Some of us take down the holiday decorations and can feel sad. The lack of sunshine, and the prospect of more enjoyable pursuits too far in the future can feel discouraging.  There are times when the best we can do is just hang in there and go through the motions until better times.

It takes patience.

On the horizon- my next rendezvous with Cheryl, spring break, summer... and until then, I will just make the best of it. Try to stay positive and watch for opportunities to grow, help and prepare for the future.

I signed up to attend a workshop on Moviemaker this Thursday. Moviemaker is a Windows program that edits videos. Some of the free workshops offered by my school division can be worth exploring to expand the ever growing wealth of information technology knowledge.

Chin up. Happier times are ahead. The dim days of winter will pass and spring will come, with all of it's sunshine and the joys of better weather, the end of another Canadian winter.

Until then I will do the best I can with what I have. I will plug away, treasure little moments of humble joys, and patiently endure this stretch of winter as best as possible.

a positive start

Energize your life by starting each day with gratitude. When you wake up, before you do anything else, stop and count your blessings. Then find something special about each day for which you can be thankful.

It's a great way to get each day started on a positive note, and it can make a major difference throughout the day. Actively practicing gratitude on a regular basis will keep you in touch with the very best of your possibilities. It will enable you to see opportunities and utilize resources which may otherwise have remained hidden or forgotten.

Maintaining an attitude of gratitude will keep you connected to the things of value in your life. So in a very real sense it will add value to each moment of the day.

There are many good things in your life. It makes sense to fully appreciate and enjoy them. When you do, those positive things will grow even stronger. Begin each day by counting your many blessings. By so doing you'll attract many more.
